Relational healing program

Our Relational Healing Program is integrating intensive, trauma-informed, attachment-based clinical treatment with the family support already available to adoptive families.

A Home Based Model

FFSC provides home-based clinical services, with virtual care when appropriate, reducing barriers related to distance, caregiver demands, and limited access to adoption-competent providers while addressing challenges where families experience them.

The Relational Healing Program is a program of Flourishing Families of South Carolina. HALO Project® is a registered program by Cindy R. Lee, LCSW. Used with acknowledgment and adaptation.

Understanding Prenatal and Intergenerational Trauma Through a Perinatal & Infant Mental Health Lens

When Trauma Begins Before Birth: Understanding Prenatal and Intergenerational Trauma Through a Perinatal & Infant Mental Health Lens explores how prenatal stress, perinatal experiences, and intergenerational patterns can shape caregiver well-being, infant development, and the early parent-infant relationship. Clinicians will examine how trauma may be expressed across generations and consider the impacts of using a relationship-based approach to supporting families. The training emphasizes the caregiving relationship as a powerful source of protection, resilience, and repair during pregnancy and infancy, with a focus on practical dyadic interventions clinicians can incorporate into practice.

Session Objectives

  1. Define prenatal, perinatal, and intergenerational trauma and distinguish these concepts from traditional understandings of trauma.

  2. Identify how intergenerational trauma may appear clinically in parents' beliefs, expectations, behaviors, relationships, or experiences of pregnancy and parenting.

  3. Explore dyadic interventions that demonstrate the importance of the caregiving relationship as a potential protective factor that can buffer the effects of adversity during pregnancy and infancy.
